What Are Dermal Fillers?
Treatment Areas
Our team provides dermal filler injections across a wide range of treatment areas:
- Lips: Add definition, symmetry, and subtle volume with natural-looking lip fillers that enhance without overfilling
- Cheeks: Restore youthful contour and lift with cheek fillers that replenish volume lost to aging
- Nasolabial folds: Soften deep smile lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines: Address lines at the corners of the mouth for a more rested appearance
- Under-eye / tear trough: Reduce hollowness and dark shadows beneath the eyes
- Jawline and chin: Define and balance facial structure with strategic placement
- Temples: Restore volume in the upper face for a more youthful, balanced profile
What to Expect: Before, During, and After
Before your appointment, we conduct a thorough consultation to map your facial anatomy and discuss your goals. We review your medical history and set realistic expectations, including showing before and after filler examples that reflect your treatment area.
During the treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to maximize comfort. Most sessions take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the number of areas treated.
After your dermal filler treatment, you may notice mild swelling or bruising for a few days, which is completely normal. Results are typically visible immediately and continue to settle over two weeks.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
How long dermal fillers last depends on the product used and the treatment area. In general, hyaluronic acid fillers last between 6 and 18 months. Lips tend to metabolize filler more quickly than areas like the cheeks or jawline. RHA fillers, due to their flexible formulation, often maintain results for 12 to 15 months in dynamic areas.
Sculptra, a collagen stimulator rather than a traditional filler, can produce results that last up to two years with an initial series of treatments.
During your follow-up appointments, our injectors will assess your results and recommend a maintenance schedule that keeps your look refreshed without overcorrecting.

Dermal Fillers: Restoring Volume and Fullness
Dermal fillers add volume to specific areas of the face, addressing concerns like:
Loss of facial volume: Cheeks, lips, and temples can be plumped for a more youthful appearance.
Deep wrinkles: Fillers can help smooth out deeper wrinkles and lines that persist even at rest.
Scars: Acne scars or other facial scars can be softened for a more even complexion.
Fillers come in various types, like hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite. They add volume to areas like cheeks, smooth deeper wrinkles, and enhance lips. Dermal filler injections take about 45-60 minutes and can provide results lasting 12-18 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dermal fillers administered by a trained injector are considered very safe. We use FDA-approved products and follow strict injection protocols to minimize risk. During your consultation, we will discuss your health history and any contraindications before proceeding.
Yes. One of the advantages of hyaluronic acid-based fillers is that they can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with the results or experience a complication. This is one reason HA fillers are widely considered the gold standard for facial rejuvenation.
Good candidates are adults in general good health who want to address volume loss, fine lines, or facial asymmetry without surgery. The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation at our Bethesda med spa, where we will assess your facial structure and discuss your options.
